airtran etc. follow up

I just have to pull this out of my comments section because, well, it’s amazing.

If this is really an airtran employee then I am SHOCKED!!! And also suggest a social media advisor at the company, because if this is the kind of interaction you’re engaged in on blogs, you’ve got a bigger problem than ridiculously uncomfortable seats. See my original post about the need for better accomodations on Airtran flights here.

… and this response I just got from Jennifer: “Actually, each seat itself cost well over $800.00 so if you’d like to donate to us, we would be more than happy to buy YOU a new seat.”

Blogger Relations 101: Jennifer: FAIL. I’m going to let this just speak for itself, rather than offering the numerous comments I have for my new friend.

marketing to the social web

Listening to yet another set of experts (this time via PR Week) talk about how to conduct public relations and marketing in the social media world. And I’m struck  by a message I have heard numerous times from bloggers (Seth Godin last week for BullDog Reporter), PR people (Paul Gillin on this call), and social media gurus (Tom Gerace): DO YOUR RESEARCH. Do not pitch the blogger, do not attempt to get your company mentioned unless you have really become a member of the community, read the content thoroughly and regularly, understand where the purpose of this site lies and what its readers value. More from this meeting in a bit…

And yet I wonder… when do I have time to do all this reading!?
