new marketing summit – recap

Thanks to everyone who has given great feedback on the live-blogging kate and I did for the New Marketing Summit this week. Just wanted to pull it all together with one final post – the below posts are all full versions of summit panels, interviews and talks over both days of the event. Kate and I split the task, so what you don’t find here, you’ll find over at our company blog. Please feel free to leave comments and follow us on twitter @anyawoods and @just_kate.

Thanks to Chris Brogan for a fabulous event, and it was great to meet all the movers and shakers in this industry!

other side group goes to Web 2.0

It’s a big week for us as we head to the Web 2.0 expo in NYC. We’ve got a bunch a great meetings lined up that we’re really excited about, and are looking forward to meeting a lot of new people and learning about new technologies. If you’re in town and would like to meet up, feel free to SMS me at 315-751-5090! I’ll be trying to do some live blogging of the event, but no guarantees!

new media measurement: clear goals are the key

Have been talking a lot lately about measurement in new media. How to do it, how not to do, how to demonstrate ROI while setting client expectations that some things, at the end of the day, are not quantitatively measurable.

So I wrote a post for the company blog on the subject today, basically arguing that setting clearly defined goals in the beginning is the key to successful measurement in the end. This is something many clients  often struggle with for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that they are so eager to jump into the new media space, they do very little clear strategy and goal setting prior to launch, and then attempt to work in a measurement plan after the tactics are already in place and running.

Check out the post here… and some related thoughts from Mashable and a great list of measurement benchmarks and tools from Rachel Happe here….

other side group – launch day!

Ok, I know, you don’t really “launch” a consulting firm. I mean, it’s not like we were in private beta and now we’re live. (Although that would have been hilarious!) But we did finalize a lot of things, not the least of which were my biz cards, and sent out our official press release this morning for the launch of the company! Check it out here…

We’ve also been working on the SEO for the site, which has been VERY frustrating. With a new URL, we’re faced with being shunned by Google for what some have estimated a full six months while they decide whether or not we’re a real company/site. Our search ranking on MSN is #1, but that’s no real consolation since I don’t know anyone who actually uses MSN. Tips to shorten the time we are placed in this “Google sandbox” are to increase the number of inbound links and visitors, and wait. So! If you have a blog or site and want to link to us and help the cause, please do! www.othersidegroup.com. Any other advice on SEO efforts at this early stage are welcome!

other side group

I’ve been itching to blog about this for a while now, so today is a very exciting moment! I’m kicking off a full time effort to help launch a consulting firm, offering marketing strategy, PR and new media services to a wide range of clients here in the Boston area and all over the country. The company, founded by Kate Brodock, is called Other Side Group, and promises to be a very successful venture (we think). This week I’ll be very busy digging in with business development efforts and really sinking my teeth in to some new projects we have going on, so I’ll hopefully be blogging about my efforts and experiences as we go along. In the meantime, please check out our Web site at www.othersidegroup.com and see the company blog for updated news!
